Objective: To research and create a foam core model of a desk for art students living in small spaces.
Timeline and Group Size: This was a six week project with five people.
My Role and Responsibilities: I headed up the model making for the cardboard, chip board and foam core prototypes. I also collaborated in market research, interviewing, analysis and ideation.
Top desk rotated 90 degrees clockwise with wheeled storage pulled forward for U-shape.
Top desk rotated and raised 90 degrees clockwise.
Two person configuration with drafting board raised.
Top desk rotated 180 degrees.
The Axis desk can be rotated and raised to create a variety of configurations. This allows it to adjust to the wide range of needs of art students that are working on various types of projects and moving to different spaces. It includes outlets, USB ports and lighting solutions as well as storage, display and drafting functions.
In motion, sitting and standing options.
Process Summary:
Conducted secondary and primary research and developed several concept sketches.
Developed our best concept into a full scale cardboard piece and small chip board iterations to get feedback from users.
Created renderings of the final concept along with a foam core model.
